Toyota Motor Sales, Torrance, California, USA
What is the LEED Certification?Toyota Motor Sales South Campus Headquarters building corresponds to the company's main principle - to satisfy transportation needs of the society and at the same time not to harm the Earth by negative impacts on the environment. The enviromentally sensitive, energy-efficient office building was designed by LPA Architects Inc. The Californian Headquarters with gross floor area 58,000 m2 and 16.2ha land succeeds in saving more than $400,000 on energy annually. 42 million liters of water is saved per annum, as recycled water is used for irrigating the surrounding landscape and cooling the building. 4923m2 PV solar panels, installed on the roof by Turner Construction, produce approximately 20% of the energy used. All building materials contain an average 50% recycled content. The $87 million project, completed in April 2002, is the largest building in the USA to earn LEED Gold certification (awarded on April 15, 2003).
