What is the LEED Certification?Founded in 1947, Standard Refrigeration Company Inc. is a mechanical and electrical contracting firm operating in Puerto Rico, near San Juan Metropolitan Area. The company specializes in construction works of shopping malls, hospitals, office buildings, airport terminals, administrative buildings, etc. Gross floor area of the 2-story office building is 1783 square meters (19,200 square feet). The building earned LEED Platinum certification (in the сategory of New Constructions, 52 points) for a number of vital factors, such as the metal roof, covered with Eraguard (product, with low reflectivity and emissivity), recycled materials, air conditioning system. The rainwater is collected in a 40,000 gallon cistern and later used for the urinals and closets of the building. Energy reduction is evaluated more than 60%. The building has also earned such prestigious awards as Energy Star rating (2007), Excellence in Design Commercial (2006), Best MEP Design (2007), etc. It’s the first building in Puerto Rico with LEED Platinum certification.
