Special No. 9 House, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

What is the LEED Certification?

Special No.9 is a LEED Platinum-certified building, one of 2010 COTE (The Committee of the Environment) Top Ten Green Projects, for perfect insulation and use of non-toxic materials. Built by the design of the architectural company KieranTimberlake, it is one of 13 homes which were built for the world-famous organization founded by Brad Pitt – Make it Right - the main mission of which is to build safe, healthy and sustainable houses for people displaced after Hurricane Katrina. The design of the sustainable residence was realized in two main directions – a Garden prototype and a Gable prototype. The high ceilings, operable windows and large facades help sunlight penetrate easily into the building. To achieve flexibility for future design the floor plan is divided into wet and dry living zones. Gross floor area of the single-family residential building is 141 square meters (or 1520 sq feet). Construction works were completed in September 2008. The General contractor of Special No 9 House is C&G Construction.
