The construction of the Guangzhou International Finance Center started in 2006 and was completed in 2010. The high rise is located on 5 Zhujiang Avenue West in Tianhe District, Guangzhou. The Finance Center is a home for the world-class Grade-A offices (1-66 floors) and Guangzhou Four Seasons Hotel (67-100 floors), and will play the main role in organizing the major business conferences in Guangzhou. Observation deck is located on the 99-100 floors. While viewing the beautiful scenery of the Pearl River these floors also contain world-famous catering facilities and high-class health and leisure centers. Hotel guests arrive at the sky lobby on the 70th floor at the base of a stunning 30-storey atrium! Hotel will open on 15 August 2012. A helipad is located at the top of the tower. Ascott International serviced apartments are available in two 28-storey annex buildings of GZIFC.

Architectural design made by British Wilkinson Eyre. Based on a simple rounded triangle cut this fully glassed (reinforced laminated glass curtain wall) building is extremely elegant. Each of 3 façades gently curved in section, tapering to its narrowest peak and creating gracefully slender crystalline form. The aerodynamic shape of the building reduces the force of wind at height. As expressed Antony Wood, the CTBUH Executive Director, -"The building has an elegant simplicity in both form and structure, with the diagrid giving depth, strength and character to the building. It is also great to see the British adept at designing super tall buildings!"

2 structure design companies, Arup and Architecture Design Institute of South China University of Technology, used reinforced concrete and metal tubes to meet proposed architectural form of the tower. As reported by project manager Yuexiu Property Co. Ltd, GZIFC is the world's first mega tower supported by diagonally placed columns. Each column is made of steel tubes filled with reinforced concrete that is capable of resisting not only fire hazards, explosions, strong winds or external attacks, but also multiple-point attacks to the structure. The entire building structure is electronically monitored with structural damage alerts to facilitate immediate repair.
