What is the LEED Certification?

Completed in May 2010, ESAB Middle East FZE (Free Zone Establishment) occupies about 5670 square meters (61033 sq feet), including offices and a warehouse. The building is situated in Jebel Ali Free Zone. On October 2, 2010, the building received LEED Platinum certification. The owners of the complex are Harald Hespe & Johan Fransson. The main contractor was Fars Al Mazrooej Contracting. Designed by Pax-Kent International, the building is armed with an innovative system of solar panels which generate hot water. The environmentally friendly building is innovative also in terms of use of renewable energy and wastewater technologies. The construction provides a parking lot for fuel-efficient cars, as well as storages for bicycles. Paints used during construction were low-VOC. The motion-controlled lighting system turns on light when there are people in the rooms. Energy use is reduced by more than 51%. Used water and rainwater are collected and later reused in toilets and for irrigating native plants.
