Doon School, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India
What is the LEED Certification? The founder of the Doon School (doon translated as “valley”) was lawyer Satish Ranjan Das whose main mission was to open the first public schools in order to provide the youth of India with high-quality education. However, Das did not see the realization of his dream. Only after his death, in September 1935, his family opened the boy-only Doon School the vision of which is “to be an institution of excellence”. That’s why the designers aimed at creating healthy environment with perfect indoor conditions which could attract students. The first headmaster of the Doon School was Arthur Foot.
The campus of the school occupies 69 acres (or 280,000 square meters) and is considered one of the first green campuses in India. The school is armed with solar thermal and biomass gasification systems, as well as a perfectly designed system of wastewater management.
