What is the LEED Certification?

Located in Seeduwa, Brandix Casualwear Ltd. is the first factory building in the world with LEED Platinum Certification according to the Rating System of USGBC (76 points). Gross floor area of the converted green factory, opened in April 2008, is 12,077 square meters (130.000 sq feet). The company was established in 1969, though then it was called Lux Shirts. In 2001 it acquired a new name and a new brand – Brandix Lanka Ltd. In 2007 it was considered the largest exporter of the country. This unique eco-center is a leader in water harvesting, waste recycling and management and energy consumption. Carbon footprint is reduced by 64% per annum. The 30-year-old factory was converted into a green manufacturing facility, achieving significant success in the system of air-conditioning, carbon emissions and energy consumption. Energy usage is cut down by 46% annually. Enlarged windows made of special glass help sunlight to penetrate into the building. Project cost - $3 million.
