Taipei 101, formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center. Construction was completed in 2004. The total cost for the project was about US $1.7 billion with gross building floor area 412,500 m2. Taipei 101 was designed by Taiwanese C.Y.Lee &Partners and constructed primarily by South Korean Samsung Engineering & Construction who participated lately as the original main contractor KTRT Joint Venture couldn't finish the construction on time. The structural system of Taipei 101 is composite (steel structure and concrete), facade material is glass. The building is designed to withstand strongest typhoon winds and earthquake tremors and considered one of the most stable buildings ever constructed. Taipei 101 is owned by the Taipei Financial Center Corporation (TFCC) and managed by the International division of Urban Retail Properties Corporation based in Chicago. There is two double-deck elevators (two elevator cars that are attached, one on top of the other) from Toshiba Elevator & Building Systems Corporation which set in 2004 a new record with top ascending speed of 16.83 m/s (55.22 ft/s)(To date the world's fastest elevators at speed 18 m/s (59 ft/s)at Burj Khalifa). The building consists a number of elite shops, offices, restaurants, VIP club etc. The Taipei Financial Center Corporation announced plans on 2009 November to make Taipei 101 "the world's tallest green building" by summer 2011 as measured by LEED standards ( Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design - an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies intended to improve performance in metrics such as energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts).

Observation Deck Info » Taipei 101 features two Observation decks with a 360-degree panoramic view. The Indoor Observation Deck is located on the 89th floor and is 383.4 meters (1258 feet) high. It offers visitors and tourists exhibits and tours. The Outdoor Observatory is on the 91st floor (391.8 m high).

Corporate Suites » The sky lobbies are located on 35th-36th floors. The Mid Zone Office floor occupies from 35th up to the 58th floor. The so-called Low Zone Office Center is concentrated between the 9th and 34th floor.
The Offices » Taiwan Stock Exchange occupies 7 floors in the building. Among the largest tenants of the tower are Bel Air Motors Ltd and Liberty Motors Ltd., as well as L’Oreal Taiwan, China Steel Corporation, etc.
Retail » Located on the first six floors, with gross floor area about 65,000 square meters, Taipei 101 Mall consists of more than 185 shops and represents such internationally-known brands, as Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc.
