Scheffelhof, Frankfurt, Germany

What is the LEED Certification?

Scheffelhof is a residential community made of ten urban houses. Built by the design of the Frankfurt-based architectural company Rook Architects, the 10 community-oriented townhouses achieved Green Building Award in 2009. The houses (mainly 2-storeyed) are located at Scheffelstrasse 35, 35 a-i. Construction works were completed in June 2008. The project cost 2,960,000 Euro. The main goal of the designers was to provide a number of families with adequate living space, improve the quality of life and social infrastructure in the city. The neighborhood is highly creative and functional and features playgrounds for each of the ten houses, thus creating a unique oasis in the heart of the busy city. The houses are connected with each other by the gardens on the roofs. So the roofs are also used as additional open spaces. As the problem of parking is quite actual in Frankfurt, the designing team also cared for underground parking lots for each of the houses.
