BioBased Corporate Headquarters, Arkansas, USA

What is the LEED Certification?

BioBased Corporate Headquarters, Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA
BioBased Corporation, consisting of a number of facilities and branches, is headquartered in Fayetteville, not far from the University of Arkansas, on a reused site (formerly used by the Water Department). As the corporation is specialized in sustainability, the designers of the headquarters put the main emphasis on recycling (paper, plastic, aluminium, etc.), natural daylight (more than 95% of the indoor space is filled with natural light, thanks to high performance glass), optimal heating (by two-stage high-efficiency condensing boilers), cooling and ventilation systems (this aspect is of utmost importance, as the building includes laboratories used for active researches), use of low-emitting materials, landscaping with native plants, etc. The architect of the project, Mobley Architects, Inc., managed to solve two basic problems: save energy costs and reduce carbon emissions. The roof of the construction is reflective. The project with gross floor area of 2800 square meters (30,000 square feet) was completed in 2007. The building achieved LEED Silver certification (37 points) for a number of criteria: Water and Energy use reduction, Increased Ventilation, Pollution reduction, etc. General Contractor was Kinco Constructors, LLC.
