Bethel Middle School, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA
What is the LEED Certification?Completed in October 2006, Bethel Middle School is intended for more than 750 students and occupies 11,249 square meters (121,086 sq feet). Total project cost about $14.207.000. The main goal of design team was to create a new educational building in correspondence with LEED standards. Plenty of land was at the disposal of the architects, but they decided not to waste it and to minimize land usage. During sunny days the building is full of daylight. The roof of the building made with sunbeams reflective white surface on. Interior designers faced a number of problems, namely, creating comfortable environment for the students, building an environmentally friendly construction, utilizing natural daylight, finding creative solutions, etc. Occupancy sensors control the light and temperature in the rooms when they are empty. The Bethel Middle School building earned LEED Silver certification.
